Thanks to "Midge" I stand corrected on yesterday's posting about the "Baconator". It appears that when I went back to their nutritional info, it's actually 830 calories vs. "580 calories.
I stand corrected, thanks Midge!

well, I am going to be harsh here...I don't have a problem judging this type of food...its complete, utter junkfood, and is garbage, in my view.
830 calories is like 2 meals, and that is in one burger. That is disgusting, no human needs that much "food" in one sitting.
Way too much fat, 51 g.
Way too much sodium, almost 2000 mg! That's close to 100% of what you need for the day.
The bun is just sugar.
What works for me is to tell the Ugly Truth about these "foods". They are complete garbage food. At Wendy's, the small chili is sorta ok, but still way too much salt.
Its the same with a McDonalds Doublecheesburger. Its complete junk. These foods can literally take years off our lives, they make millions of peope obese, they stuff them with too much sodium which can be deadly. Who knows the chemicals in these junkfoods?
So my approach is to tell the Ugly Truth about these foods to myself, and give myself NO CHOICE about NOT eating them. I can't be healthy and eat foods like that. Period.
You can't pour milk into your car and expect it to drive on that.
We can't put trash into our bodies, and expect to be thin and healthy.
To me, this type of junkfood is simply off the list of edible foods, and its not even really a food, its a poison.
That's my view.
When I represent it in my brain like that, then I won't eat it. Just like I won't smoke a cigarette which will also harm and kill me.
These products are as toxic as cigarettes in my view.
(again, I am deliberately taking this strong and harsh view in my mind, as this cognitively-emotionally WORKS to point out the facts about these junkfoods, and this blocks me from eating them.)

Dear CBT Fan,
I love your passion and I agree with your thinking. In fact my posting actually was done in the spirit of hopefully helping people cognatively in this "weigh".
Your mind and my mind with the help of Dr. Beck has been moving in that direction, but obvoiusly millions of others have not.
These postings are meant as "food for thought" to stir up some conversations so that "little by little" people start to move towards thinking and behaviors that suit a healthier lifestyle.
Because it's been my experience that at least with adults, when you say we can't have something, we want it more.
The long term answer rests with children, in the same way smoking education had dramatically helped lessen smoking over all.
Thanks for ALL of your great comments, and especially this one!

hey Jay, I know the point you were making, and you are writing a public blog, so you have to write in a balanced fashion.
But I am just giving my own personal viewpoint, so I can just let it rip!!
Personally, I think these "foods" are designed by food scientists hired by the companies to take advantage of human weakness, and make a buck off them. Or 50 cents. They load it with salt, fat and sugar for that reason.
Again, to be clear, I am using Cognitive-Emotive techniques to make myself DESPISE these foods. For instance, I now despise smoking, and used to smoke, and never will again.
All I have to do is get that SAME FEELING and the same thoughts about these toxic foods, and I won't eat them either.
but I understand your point that people who eat that stuff will eat it no matter what. Wendy's knows that too.
Also, we sometimes eat what we fight against.
But to me, the NO CHOICE idea works best here. I just have to draw a line in the sand and say I will NOT eat these types of foods anymore. Too much salt, fats, and calories.
I can eat a healthy substitute though, like a nice lean burger made at home, as part of a meal.
So again, I am not being critical, just sharing more of my CBT style techniques.
They are Anti-Rationalization techniques.
But Wendy's knows what they are doing. They know human weakness and desire, and they pander to it. They are tricking the obese US public to buy that and eat it. They don't care what it does to people, they care that it turns a profit, and draws "heavy customers" who gorge on fastfood into their stores.
But the way to stop these foods is a very powerful and educated NO CHOICE, I'm not going to eat it.
And perhaps allow a healthy alternative, like a nice little super-lean burger, with a whole wheat bun, and other good things.
I will be honest, to me the Baconator is a "toxic sludge" in my mind. That's why I'll never eat it, unless I was starving on a desert island, but I doubt a Wendy's drive-through would be there!
So in my mind...Baconator = 1000 calories + toxic sludge of sodium, fat, sugar and about 100 other chemicals. Its a nasty, salty, greasy blob of chemicals and fat.
thanks for bringing it up, I never knew it even existed, although I think I saw a commercial.
I put certain foods into the "poison" category, and for me, the Baconator is toxic poison to the human body.

I was looking up the caloric count on the Baconator and found this blog. Oddly enough, it is actually less than what I thought it would be, I was expecting something around 1500 calories.
830 Calories, yea not so bad, I mean yea not healthy, but not as bad a I thought. i will tell you this, the burger, oh my god, soooo good!
Long live the baconator!

Damn, only 850, i've been going around the assumption that they're twice that when eating for my ectomorphic weight gain diet of 4k calories a day. Oh well. I need to eat a lot of crap, fat doesn't stick to me, only 3.5%. :( sucks how everything in stores is fat free or low fat for people like me that need to gain weight.
