Say, Oh, Well, to Disappointment - Day 22 - Week 4

It's hard to be disappointed after losing 24LBS over the past 22 days but I clearly understand what Dr. Beck is sharing in this section. My plan is to just keep on applying what she's teaching one day at a time.

My biggest challenge is still keeping up with advanced meal planning, but the good news is that before and during the time I'm eating, my thoughts are a; about making the right choices.

Get Ready To Weigh In - DAY 21

What a great day Sunday was!

"Fully Clothed" I'm down 24LBS in 20 Days, and Kim and I spent an amazing day in NYC at a Hay House mini conference with Dr. Wayne Dyer and Marianne Williamson. As always they both were truly inspiring in so many ways.

And when Wayne shared how much of a profound impact his study of the Tao Te Ching has transformed his thinking, which is also the basis of his next book, I decided that I'm going to get a copy of the Tao Te Ching and start absorbing it's wisdom until his version's released.

And even though this might sound a little strange, based on some of the great teachings Wayne was sharing that he learned over the past year in studying the Tao Te Ching, I have a feeling there's going to be some very interesting connections that support the teachings of "The Beck Diet Solution". Stay tuned...

Get Back On Track - Day 20

Inspired by Dr. Beck's caloric step chart I thought I'd create my own version to get in plain view.

My food plan for the day...

BREAKFAST - Starbucks venti 1/2 caf w 1/2 a scrambled egg with ham on a hard roll
MID MORNING - Starbucks venti 1/2 caf w the other 1/2 a scrambled egg with ham on a hard roll
LUNCH - Tinga salad with chicken, avocado, lettuce and tomato's in a taco shell and a diet Coke
MID AFTERNOON - banana
DINNER - 1/2 order of pasta w/ garlic + olive oil, small salad w/french dressing and a roll
EXERCISE - long brisk walk in the woods with Ripley

I was doing so well yesterday until I let my old "mindset" take me to dinner last night, and once I let go, I just let go, so today's lesson to "Get Back On Track" is perfect. But the good thing is that even though I didn't follow my food plan for dinner that I had laid out for myself, I didn't go crazy later in the evening or even carry it into today as I'm sure I would have if I hadn't been practicing "The Beck Diet Solution" principals.

In fact when I had lunch today I found it actually easy to eat only till I was full and let them throw the rest away, which was a big accomplishment. At first I thought I'd save it for later but it actually felt very freeing to let go of it.

Stop Fooling Yourself - Day 19

What I really like about Dr. Beck's work is how little by little she peels away the layers of issues that are "most secret" and "most common" to all of us that have made our bodies become metabolically-challenged through our thoughts.

This section is great as once again it brings to the surface how our "silent" self-talk can really undermine our efforts.

As I considered my top "It's okay to eat this because..." excuses, these were the one that were most true for me.

"It's okay to eat this because... it won't matter."
"It's okay to eat this because... I paid for it."
"It's okay to eat this because... it'll go to waste."
"It's okay to eat this because... I'll disappoint someone if I don't."
"It's okay to eat this because... everyone else is eating it."
"It's okay to eat this because... I'm celebrating."
"It's okay to eat this because... no one will see me eating it."
"It's okay to eat this because... it's free."
"It's okay to eat this because... I really want it."
"It's okay to eat this because... it's a special occassion."
"It's okay to eat this because... I'm upset and I just don't care."
"It's okay to eat this because... I'm craving it and I'll probably just eat it eventually."

WOW, that's really scary as when I first read through the list I didn't think that too many of these really applied to my self-talk, but upon closer review I saw that A LOT of them applied to what I've been saying to myself [silently] for years.

This exercise had such a strong imapct on me that I decided to write out my Not Okay Response Card in RED.

Another lesson learned is that I get much more impact out of having transfered my "Advantages For Losing Weight" responses from a typed Word doc to hand-written index cards.

I was at the gym early this morning doing a strong legs+ abs work out and then I took Ripley for a brisk walk.

My "Eating For Life" food plan for the day...
BREAKFAST - Starbucks 1/2 caf venti w/Silk soy milk, flagel with lite cream cheese
SNACK - Starbucks 1/2 caf venti with Silk soy milk
LUNCH - 1/2 of a chicken/lettuce/pepper panni sandwich
SNACK - the other 1/2 of the chicken/lettuce/pepper panni sandwich
DINNER - Fish, baked potato, veggies and salad [no bread, no dessert]

Okay, for dinner "I FOOLED MYSELF" because I came up with a new one to add to the list "It's okay to eat this because... it's a Friday night date [with my wife].

I did eat fish as I had planned but other than that everything else wasn't on the list. We went to Bonefish Grill where I had a beer [not on the plan], Bang Bang shrimp [not on the plan], bread [not on the plan], potatoes au gratin [not on the plan], and we shared a piece of Key Lime pie [not on the plan]. I didn't read any response cards before dinner, in fact they were in the car.

So I guess if I can give myself credit for anything it's HONESTY, which is very good, but I also realize that I won't HONESTLY lose weight if I keep up that type of "thinking + eating".

You know what else, I woke up about 2:30 last night with acid reflux. I think the other good thing is that I really am feeling that it's going to get easier and easier to not fall off my plan.

Oh, one more thing I had a piece of [unplanned] chocolate birthday cake at a friend's ofice party today, I almost forgot.

Casting Call...

Ever since mypetfat launched, people in the UK can't seem to get enough of it.

Especially the members of Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Clubs. Instructors order 1 LB-ers and 5LB-ers as visual models to help their members better visualize the LBS they're losing, and members are ordering 1LB-ers and the mini mypetfat to keep them in the cupboard, in an icebox or at their desk to help them stay on their plan.

So this is the first Casting Call for any and all Rosemary Conley members who would like to share their advice, thoughts, success stories, photos and videos with the world of how they're staying on their Rosemary Conley plan. Yes it would be great if it's a story that includes mypetfat in it, but that's not the only "weigh" we'll share what you're doing.

I DO HAVE TIME!

Taking Dr. Beck's advice to make a new response card I took the questions she suggested I ask myself and I reframed them in a very inspiring way to make sure I DO EVERYTHING, EVERYDAY, NO MORE EXCUSES!

I've printed out a few copies to keep them front and center throughout my day.

THIS IS JUST TOO COOL!

Chances are, many of you never have the time to look at the comments that are posted on the blogs that you follow because just reading a post takes up lots of your time.

So I wanted to share with all of you who continue to check in to see how I'm progressing on "The Beck Diet Solution" the nice insights and words of encouragement Dr. Beck keeps sending me.

Seeing that I have struggled over the past few days for a multitude of reasons [excuses] to keep up with her daily suggestions, she's shared with me some great advice that I'd like to share with all of you who may be having similar challenges.

Here's what she posted which is great advice, and most important, advice I will follow.

Hi, this is Judith Beck. First, you're doing great. Congratulations! Second, I want you to avoid a trap that many unsuccessful dieters fall in. For the first couple of weeks or so of their diet, they're really motivated to make time and energy for dieting. But then life intervenes and they no longer prioritize dieting and/or exercising. They let other things get in the way. Then one day, they start to slide. They don't have the right food in the house; it's easier to grab something that's not on their diet from a convenience store; they start eating standing up; they no longer plan their food intake in writing; they stop reading their response cards; and so on. Then they're simply not prepared when they have a more difficult day. They overeat, get demoralized, and often give up completely.
Since I don't want the same thing to happen to you, here's what I suggest. Rerate how important each advantage of losing weight is to you and decide right now whether you're going to give dieting your best shot this time or not. If the answer is yes, figure out (maybe with your diet coach) how you're going to find time to do ALL the activities in the Beck Diet Solution every day. I know it's time-consuming but some you need to do for one day only, some you'll only need to do periodically, and hopefully the rest will become so automatic in time that you'll naturally fit them into your schedule. Watch out for your sabotaging thoughts: "I don't have time to do this." "It won't matter if I skip this step." Write yourself out a new response card to remind yourself that you need to prioritize these activities and that each one DOES matter--if you want to reach your goal of being thinner for life.

Change Your Definition of Full - Day 18

Ok, it's a new day, a new opportunity to really get my head wrapped around and apply what Dr. Beck is sharing with me in this section. So here's the first thing I'm going to commit to today, I'm going to commit to myself to intently read this section of the book and follow through 110% with what Dr,. Beck is sharing.

First things first... here's my food plan that I'm sticking to 110%
BREAKFAST - Starbuck's venti 1/2 caf w Silk soy milk and a bran muffin
SNACK - banana
LUNCH - Qdobo Mexican gumbo
SNACK - banana
DINNER - 60 mins on the treadmill and the steam room
AFTER DINNER - Protein shake with unsweetened Silk soy milk

Now that's a great "weigh" to start my day, with my food plan fully defined.

Ok, how could I help but stay on track 110% today after Dr. Beck's words of encouragement and I did.

I ate EXACTLY with what I said I was going to eat, and nothing else, not even a crumb and I did each and every one of today's to-do list 110%.

And to top it off, in addition to taking Ripley for a walk which qualified for my spontaneous exercise for the day, I was so charged with my success today that I cranked up the treadmill like it was a stairmaster at level 15.0 and I traveled 3 miles burning 1306 calories.
